What does a Senior Business Objects Developer do?

As a senior level Business Objects Developer you will join our Strategic Insights team. In this role you will work in an Agile environment delivering software solutions utilized by internal and external customers. You should have a passion for development and possess strong development skills in Business Objects. You will be responsible for developing, unit testing, and integration tasks working within this highly visible-client focused web services application. You will also conduct data analysis that will influence and improve the various custom report and file builds and ad hoc requests fulfilled by the Insights Assist Custom Reporting team.

This position will require close collaboration with the product owners and managers, project managers, and the test QA team. You will have a motivation to achieve team results, the ability to learn new technologies, and grow to understand the financial services industry.

As a Senior Business Objects Developer, you can look forward to:

  • Crafting, documenting, implementing, and maintaining complex information on deliverables including analytics, reports, and dashboards.

  • Conducting unit & integration testing and peer reviews of deliverables.

  • Performing complex troubleshooting and resolution activities.

  • Researching and developing solutions to problems discovered by QA or production support.

  • Researching and developing a deep understanding of the products for which deliverables are being developed.

  • Research and understand the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and bold issues.

  • Research new technology and development tools to remain informed of current technology and standard methodologies.

  • Fulfilling ad hoc data requests from both internal and external clients; requests range from routine to complex, and ad hoc to full automation.

  • Have the ability to communicate information effectively with peers and project management.

  • Work in a matrix team environment with marketing, product, account management, information management and finance to provide data used in planning and business case development activities.

Basic qualifications for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent degree required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with project development / methodologies experience, full software development lifecycle.

  • Working knowledge with SAP Business Objects 4.0+ including Universe, particularly Design Studio and Lumira. Dashboards and WebI development.

  • Working knowledge of and validated capabilities with JavaScript for Design.

  • Superb communication and social skills working with both technical and non-technical staff.

  • Understanding of development process; including requirements, design, construction, testing and implementation of coding principles; including testing, code review, quality control, code promotion and versioning.

  • Good understanding of data warehouse design, including relational and dimensional modeling.

  • Overall conceptual and technical skills.

  • Technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation.

  • Experience in research and analysis, project planning and implementation.

  • Aware of business issues as they impact overall project plans.

  • Familiarity with PCs and various software applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Comfortable with rapidly changing and/or loosely defined requirements that are refined over time.

  • Skilled at active listening and capable of facilitating discussions.

  • Able to take a variety of tasks from start to finish with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to travel 10% domestically when needed.

Preferred qualifications for consideration:

  • Working knowledge with SAP BusinessObjects 4.0+ including Universe, particularly Design Studio and Lumira. Dashboards and WebI development.

  • Working knowledge of and solid capabilities with JavaScript development for Design Studio development.
